What is CMS?

CMS, an abbreviated term for Content Management System, is a web program which many people call it software. These CMSs, mostly developed by the communities having same interest and background in computer programming, can be used in making managing website contents simple and easy. Most of these softwares are freely available for download on the internet. There are many types of softwares aimed for various purposes like business, blogging, social net working, web directory, e-commerce, news portal, etc. Therefore, it is important to firstly know the types of CMS that you want to use for your web site. You must decide what type of website youa re planning so that you can choose specific CMS for your purpose.

Technology
Among other technologies that most CMS share, many are programmed in PHP (Personal Home Page) web script language and use MySQL database to store information and contents. You will need an active web server to host one of your chosen CMS to enable you to customize according to your design and requirements. There are also many methods whereby you can also customize CMS on your own desktop/laptop if you have got some freely available web service like XAMPP or WAMP (which I will update on these resources soon).

Advantages of CMS
When you are familiar with some CMS, it is like having a organized way of managing your files and folders on your computer. You can create as many sections and categories as you can (but some CMS might restrict to certain numbers). Your contents can be cateforised into topics and subjects. One of the most reliable features of the CMS is that it can reduce the number of files you use it for your websites. You  can create your pages online which it will store in a database. Even if you want to update some pages, you will not need FTP program. You can do it online whereever you are by having an Administrator's rights like editing a Microsoft Word document!!!

.....updates are under progress. please keep visiting this page for more information on CMS.
