Is Bhutan ready to harbour cyber hackers? Are Bhutanese ISPs ready to track down those hackers and deprive them of any access to their web servers through their IP address? Are we equipped enough to keep ourselves away from those hackers?

RICBL's website hacked

These are the questions that we need to ask as it seems some ill-minded Bhutanese are learning to get into website accounts to post various defamatory messages.

Recently, a person known as DrukHack claimed it owned some well known Bhutanese company website and hacked its website. It also clearly mentioned that the hacker is Bhutanese and mentioned, "Bhutan is now under Cyber Attack. Pay attention of be ready to pay the price".

It is really disturbing trend that is beginning to sprout. Bhutan was introduced to internet and television only in 1999 and its only 12 years since introduction of such modern technology. If some Bhutanese are intending to use internet for bad puepose, its better to have some censorship while registering the clients and have a tracking system of IPs assigned to registered clients.

Its true that we people make the laws harder until when we can't follow at all. When the rules are so lenient, people take advantages and use facilities, although paid, for bad intended purposes.

It also reminds the concerned service providers to be vigilant and careful while registering any clients. Ther service providers include main ISPs, internet cafe owners, hoteliers, offices, free WiFi service providers and other individual subscribers who share their internet connection among friends or unknown. Although it may not be possible to track hundreds of system for which the IPs are assigned by DHCP, there should be some mechanisms to track in the event when we have to deal with some serious cases.

There are no rewards for the hackers in doing such activity. They are just satisfied with their ability to erase the main template contents of the main website and post their own message, while in real sense, they just waste their time and resources for no purpose.
